He has one of the best BMW channels out there because he does it all himself or most of the work and he explains cause and effect of issues.
This is one of the best forums for straight answers most of the time but other forums ou have to week out some much garbage and misinformation.
V DIY has already done most of the research and I know it is quality information.

I agree 100%. I’ve followed several of his DIYs.

The more difficult to install double barrel keeps theb casual enthusiast away so those that do it are more inclined to accept risks.

I fear the easier install of the helix will have us seeing more of this on unprepared enthusiasts. Everyone's N54 is at or over 150k miles. This won't be limited to the 4x I don't think.

57k miles here :)

Anyone know if the timing chain or vacuum pump could cause the high pressure fuel pump to malfunction. Im not saying i have an issue with the chain or pump. I dont know. The reason I'm asking is because my car through a ses light AFTER a wide open throttle pull. It then went into a semi limp mode. The codes I got initially are 29f2- fuel high- pressure system fuel pressure, 2a22- fuel pressure correlation. Cleared codes attempted to drive in parking lot ses came on and brakes stopped working. I was pressing pedal hard but car would barely stop. Just gliding along so I used the emergency brake to stop. The brake pedal was hard. The car now has a long crank, starts briefly, sputters and shuts off like its out of gas. At idle hpfp read 70psi and the low pressure pump read about 70psi too.

When I turn the ignition on without starting, the psi is still 70 for both pumps. I am running the standard Helix. I tried resetting adaptions. I visually inspected the vac pump, helix, hpfp and lpf sensor. Looked for oil leaks, cracks, inspected vac hoses etc. Everything looks good. I originally thought this was just a fueling issue like one of the pumps or sensors all though all pumps and sensors are newly installed just several months ago in the spring. The hpf sensor also. The brakes barely stopping has me wondering other things now. I didnt here any strange rattling noises. But, I did notice initially the car was kind of surging rpm in idle right after start and then surging forward when shifting to drive. Car was hesitating also when applying light throttle.

I called 2 BMW dealers. 1 told me there's no correlation between the high pressure fuel system failing and brakes barely working. The other dealer said they've seen it happen and it could be some type of fail safe.

The other codes i get are 2b2c-fuel high pressure, plausibility cold start, 2fca- fuel pressure high, 2fda-crankshaft sensor signal missing but i read the code is related to the hpfp. The last 2 codes are shadow codes.

Also, the car drove noise free from the hwy to the gas station. Drove almost normal not like the limp mode you get with a misfire. Now the car just gives long crank tries to start but shuts off like it has no fuel.

Any ideas guys? I dont want to start replacing fuel parts and its the vac pump or something else.

If you have hard brake pedal its because you have no vacuum from the pump which the helix runs off.

Stick your phone down there and take a picture of the assembly.

Remove HPFP and helix and I think You see the problem . Most likely cracks in the vacupump cover.
I have the Helix aluminum vac cover plate which shouldn't crack right? but ill check everything anyway. I guess hairline cracks can leak air and not oil?

Do You have red brace? If not - I think its cover plate broken . Only plate does not protect against breakage of it .....

Here what I have so far. Looks dry no cracks so far. I'll be disassembling soon. Is there any way to know if its the chain other than opening the engine?

I think i figured out what happened. The Helix is seized. It doesn't turn. Its locked. The hpfp still turns but the tip also turns in reverse which unscrews the tip. This explains why the vacuum pump and cover looks good. Now the question is with the timing chain. You think the chain would suffer failure do to the Helix not able to spin? I guess i can't reconnect the hpfp to see since the tip is lose? Not sure how I could tighten it.
