I think it will provide a benefit above 400whp because you can open the gap and have a stronger ignition spark. You will have more power in midrange anyway.

Here is a N54 dyno comparison at 180 load, .018 gap with sock coils (red) and .022 gap at PR coils (blue).
View attachment 48795

The B58 coil provide more energy as the PR coils, so the effect will be bigger and the gap can be open to .024 at the above example I think.
When I receive the B58 coil kit I will post logs with Stock coils comparing to the B58 coils, with same tune and boost settings.

what is the boost level in this dyno ?

I was thinking of more in the range of 0.026-0.028” @ 25 psi with the b58 plugs since it has a smaller core.

It would also be interesting to see how it performs with IGR enabled.

not 100% sure, load is 180, maybe 25+psi.

it is theory, we will see after it is installed.

What do you think of these Coils, will they fit the N54 kit from Nexsys ??..... As I am having a lot of difficulty locating a new supplier of the Eldor Coils.
BMW M140i M240i M340i B58 TURBO High Power Ignition Coils – Street Tuning | COSMO Racing

The only new Eldor Coils I can find for the B58 are this type in the photo below. But the part number does not match the one posted by another member earlier in this thread ??
Hey Blue Lightning, I would stay away from those "performance upgraded" coils. Check these out: https://www.fcpeuro.com/BMW-parts/340i/Ignition-Coil/?year=2018&m=20&e=17477&t=5&b=5&d=15456&v=
Will this fit a stock valve cover?
We have a version for the stock valve cover that will be available for pre-order tomorrow and will begin shipping mid-late February! Pictures coming shortly!
At what power level do these coils provide a benefit? Is it when you have to start gapping down plugs? Just curious If I should consider purchasing a set for my n55 m2 which I plan to target around 400-450 whp.
On the stock N54 coils I ran into misfires at 560 whp above 5200 RPM with a 0.022" gap. Car runs out clean on more boost now with the same gaps on the B58 coils.
Did anyone else get 100 wtq gains with no tuning changes by just changing their coils? Asking for a friend.
Those type of gains are unlikely unless you're experiencing misfires.

Well two things about that... First off the Eldor Coils seem to be the best option, not the Bosch ones. And second that advert you posted is for for Coils in the US. Its dumb to buy stuff all the way over there, when I can get the same coils in the UK or Germany with Zero Import charges.

Plus I've already ordered 6 of the Eldor ones now. Some guy in Germany buys in Brand new engines, strip's them and then sells the parts at about 1/2 the listed price.

Honestly I’ve dynoed and tuned a lot of cars and I’ve never seen any whp gains by opening up plug gap, even with the best ignition systems.

you can get a little better drive ability and fuel economy though.

Well on the n55 M2 the coils in use are the Delphi s55 coils, so it out puts a bit of extra power over the n54 coils. So on the m2 we don't actually have to gap down at all until really deep into the 4xx whp range close to 500 whp. Essentially we can tune to stock m4 cs power levels which is like 460 whp without any issues on the stock plug gap.

So that's why I'm not sure if there is any benefits to getting a coil upgrade if I never had to gap down in the first place. I have heard of people getting power gains with coil upgrades so that's why I'm curious, also since I will be on E85 so it will likely help with combustion.

If I don't see misfires does that mean there are no benefits to getting coils?

I wouldn't say no benefits. More spark energy will help achieve a more consistent & complete combustion process and help fire through fouled plugs. Power can still be gained from ignition coil upgrades even if misfires aren't occurring.

Very nice, very clean execution. Nice to have more choices for coil options that can improve reliability for the N54.

I'm currently running the R8 coils and they work great for me right now. No more text msgs from the wife that the car went into its Christmas light theme mode on the dash. Lol

When I'm ready to splurge on sexifying my engine bay with a nicer valve cover I will definatley give these a go.

Nice work Nexsys.

Nice work, @bahn . I will likely be an eventual customer. I like the execution of this all the way around, especially since it seems to address what have been mostly physical shortcomings in other solutions.

Maybe I missed it but can you say more about the harness/connectors? Some prior solutions were pretty Radio Shack / shoddy IMHO. Not the class of wiring/connectors one might want for the application. (I did see the 3D print connector part of that equation).

Our connectors are Made in the USA with a process called Multi-jet Fusion. The material used is PA 12 (Nylon) with a heat deflection temperature of 347 F @ 66 psi (ASTM D648 Test Method A). Our connector design utilizes locking tabs to retain the terminals and a locking arm to retain the connector to the factory harness. Wire utilized is a quality 1mm (stock gauge) cross-linked TXL in the factory wiring color scheme. The B58 coil connector and terminals are genuine TE components. All terminals are crimped. Finally the harness is sheathed in a fire retardant coated fabric loom that is ideal for harsh environments and rated for 275 F.

Here's some pictures of our assembled plug and play harnesses, let me know if you have any additional questions I didn't answer!

Looking awesome! Will it be possible to buy the harness and coil boots only?

Great job. This right here is how you do shit. I've already preordered my VTT VC kit. Question...what kinds of gaps on the N20 plugs are you guys testing with and what will the optimal gaps be? Or, is there a better plug to run with these coils?
