I think this kit would be better if they made some sort of replacement for that black plastic box that holds all the wires. Like basically the same thing the car has, but smaller and just built onto the plate that holds the coils. Or something other than just rigging up the wires the best you can.
Its a good idea, just not sure how feasible it is given the number of wires, their locations and the lack of space once you try and put the cover on.

Its a truism with most modern cars that once you start to mod them then things are never quite factory fit n finish..

Finally cleaned up the install and used a little Tesa tape. Pull the plugs. Gapped them down from .030 to .024. Die-electric grease on the porcelain. New HPFP. Tank of E45. Pulls like it should all the way to redline. Great kit.

Recently ordered a Nexsys b58 coil conversion kit for my n54 from ECS w/ full pnp connectors and boots. Also ordered Eldor B58 coils (12138643360) from FCPEuro. Installed the kit and everything was working well until i went wot and then had misfires on cly 1, 2 and 5. Never had misfires on cly 1 or 2 before. Something seemed off. Pulled the coils and the boots off and noticed a burnt smell. Looked inside the coil and found black arc marks on the coil and brown marks on the spring. It appears the springs included with the boots in the kit are too large diameter to make contact with the coils. Nexsys website recommended this PN from FCP Euro, but the coils don't seem compatible with the boots / springs included? Anyone else had this issue? How do I make this work? Coils are now used now and not returnable.

Hey there, I'm on vacation right now so my apologies if you emailed us already. Bosch and Eldor recently changed their mold for the coils. This didnt change the BMW part number and FCP is currently shipping some new style and some old style. The new mold has a "nipple" that is twice as long as the previous mold with a smaller inside diameter. We have pivoted and designed a new spring to accomodate this new mold. The springs should be in the next two weeks. If you've already emailed us then no worries. We will send you a new set of boots with the updated springs for free when we recieve them.

Yes, I did send an email, but thanks for the quick reply here. Two weeks until the new springs arrive? :sleepy: Anywhere I can buy some other springs to use for now until your new boots arrive? Or is there something else I can hack together from the stock b58 springs and another spring? Thanks.

The springs are custom. You could try stretching them over a nail or something similar down the center to make the OD shrink but that's a lot of work. Another option is returning the FCP coils and buying a set that uses the normal mold style such as Dinan.

I tried twisting the spring tighter on a smaller diameter screw, but could not get the end flat enough. Still had multiple cylinder misfires with these springs also. Went back to the pencil coils for now.
Please email me back for my shipping address for the new coils when they arrive. Thanks!

@bahn I also am curious, do you have any photos or way to identify if we will encounter this issue? I ordered kit (N55) about a month ago and am planning to install this weekend when I do my turbo upgrade. Happened to see this thread.

Edit: just ran to the garage and pulled a boot off. I see the issue with the "old" spring tip not fitting up into the coil. I'll get an email out with my order to request new springs.
I'd be half tempted to try drilling the nipple open wider but that's probably silly.

So you can drill them out if you want, otherwise just shoot me an email and I'll get a new set sent to you once we receive them.

Do you know which companies sell the older style coils like Dinan you mentioned aboved to maybe help customers prevent further issues if they run across this email.

Bosch and Eldor are the only ones using that new mold atm so every other brand is fine.

I would also like an update. I ordered coils from BMW. I'll get them today or tommorow and i'll check what version they are. Good chance they are the new revision too.

Coils confirmed to also be the new style.

Response from Austin via mail: Hoping we will have them in within the next week.
