Issues with waterpump and/or cooling

Is your battery also 6-11v?You can still move the wire over even though it is an oversized slot.check continuity,and power on that fuse you are currently connected to. If you have 14v at your battery but not at your engine bay pump fuse. Then you may have a shorted main power cable. People have had this replacement done under warranty. But first move the cable over as previously suggested. Then retest again

I moved it over and secured it with a srew. As it is not designed to accept the connector. Go ahead and do what you need to, in order to plug it in to this slot.

Check the picture i added, i dont have any other fuses to connect it to. So im not able to connect it to anything except the port which it is currently connected to.
I have 12,8v at the battery and i checked continuity on the fuse which was fine.

Hmm im not sure if i would be eligble for that recall, any idea on where i could find more information for it?
Im based in Sweden and i know you guys in the US usually gets more recalls, likely because of the chances that you might sue the manufactor.

Sorry but then what? There is no fuse there. The connector wont be connected to anything if i shove it in there.
Then the WP will surely not work.

Either im missing something here or you have just woken up and didnt look at the picture :p

What was the resistance you measured?

Zero ohms ?

I have now also checked the actual ground wire from the car to the engine, near the left side of the engine bay. The actual wire was a bit corroded as expected but the mounts were fine and resistance was good

Do you mean to tell me, that you have visually looked in the slot with a flashlight or good lighting and have seen there is NO blade at all?

Look at my picture. I don't have the cover on there :)
You can see in the image that only the two farthest to the left has fuses in them. The rest is empty.

Perhaps another baby step..
I did some fiddling around with the multiimeter set to continuity. I found out I have 5kohm between this cable and the negative cable for the battery.
That is with dme disconnected, wp disconnected and battery disconnected.
What does this go to?
Is it reasonable to have 5kohm to the negative battery cable through this cable?

I also seem to have 25ohm between the 2 terminals behind the plastic cover near the positive terminal in the engine bay.. No idea if that is supposed to be normal but it feels strange..

I'm wondering if there could be a ground-side issue? When the pump goes to full load. This is a 12-year-old car. Seems like we've been trying to chase down the power side. But that said, a ground-side could have resistance that shows up in higher amperage (like full load) ...
Hard to tell what that photo is, but looks like a body ground gone bad?

The E90 has 2 connections on the positive side of the battery inside the battery box. They go through into the wheel well and then run along the entire car, up into the engine bay.
The thick wire is for the alternator and starter and the thinner wire goes to the water pump fuse.
In my case the plastic casing covering the feed line for the waterpump inside the wheel well had cracked.
Combine that with time and salt, humidity, since its located inside the wheel well behind the inner liner, this caused heavy corrosion..

It was green when i got there and basicly broke loose when i just touched it..
So i willing to bet quite alot of money on that this must have been the issue.
That could also explain the fluctuating voltage that i saw when i measured the voltage in the engine bay when the wp tried to run. I also measured the voltage where the wp feed line connects and that was constantly 12,8v.
This caused me to pull the entire bottom plastic and also DME with entire DME box to follow the wp feed line from the engine bay, all the way to the battery.
Finally i found the corroded connector when i pulled of the right rear wheel and the inner liner..

No doubt that's the problem. It's hard to tell from the picture but it almost looks like some kind of ground strap. Dealer might have gone crazy trying to figure that out, unless the tech had seen this before. Not obvious!

Yepp most likely..

I found this image from another thread, which showes how it looks inside the battery tray. Though these images are heavily corroded.

Then on the other side of the wall is the right rear wheel. Thats where i took the picture because the cables exit the battery tray there and then runs along the car into the engine bay.

Hopefully someone else will find this thread in the future and finds it useful.

What a mess. And to think the description in the illustration calls it, "a protected area". Obviously not enough!

After you clean up that whole mess and do the repair, I'd consider some protective coating as added insurance. Maybe Deoxit Shield?
