For anyone curious. N54 Raching Channel (Gago a mate of DocVu) just built an engine with the upgraded BMW hub design.

Car seems to be going for some serious power levels. I think that this is quite a good real world example of how good the new design is.
What makes it a good "real world" example of how good the new design is ???
That they decided to trust the new version ?
If so, this means very little to me.
No offense.

There aren´t really many documented builts with that hub. So we now know with that build that there is one going for power. Statistically you are right. Doesn´t mean a lot. But i am happy to see a car going for power with the upgraded design.

Let´s see how it goes.

Got a set of standard thread headstuds for a customer motor im building. Ordered feb 16th arrived today the 21st. I don't think ill be doing business with arp anymore. Waiting over 6 months for full 11mm studs is beyond ridiculous to get a stud with lower tensile strength and thats not even designed for our motors. I've called arp and talked to them on the phone and they have no interest in making a kit for our motors. Id much rather spend a couple hundred extra to get a kit that will arrive on time and thats higher quality and designed for the specific motor.

i feel your anger. The ARP studs also are not really special but i went with them and they fit perfect.
They were on backorder for many months. Somehow i think they make them in China. Otherwise i don´t understand the supply shortage.
I ordered China studs for comparison. The threads are not the same quality. But material seems to be identical.

Lol do you know the weird thing John i think there made in the exact same place lol. They may just roll the threads to a higher quality control on the arps . I've also seen Chinese bolts material appears to be of same quality but the threads aren't as clean

Any reason going with the Athena gasket over a stock gasket ?

So what is what in that pic ?
Strength, measurements, thread, pitch, etc.

Just a measurement and comparison to the stock headbolt also shows how much thread engagement they have. I think they also look pretty good

I head the same thought process. Going for a Cutring Head Gasket and chose the ARP std Studs because the bolts are the weak point ultimately.
My car was running about german 600-620 horses and my head lifted.
I also bet my ass that you won´t get scientific relevant data from probably everyone but just personal opinion.

I had a few emails with Calvin from VAC and he said that i most likely will not need Studs up to 700hp ore even a bit more.
He also said that i will be fine with the standard studs which contain the 9mm studs. So no modification on the engine needed.
My Head also lifted at that power level. Had to go down the ARP path.

How are you guys lifting the head @ 600wheel ?
Mileage perhaps ?
1/2 mile events ?
It is understood that the N54 from factory was not engineered for these power levels, but just curious.

For me it was rail pressure issues with lean events --> high cylinder pressure with hot engine (especially cylinder 6). Gasket blew straight out the back towards the fire wall.

Hi! Thanks for the photo. Could you care to share from whom you bought those studs?
Thanks!
