I run none of the oils listed. I run Schaeffers Supreme 9000 in all my boosted/performance engines.
If it was part of my maintenance plan and was free I'd roll with it but I just couldn't see myself purchasing it with a smile on my face lol..It's not magical but it's a Good group III and tests very well, I have been using it for years. Others haven't tested as well, such as RP, Castrol GC, etc.
Then it's a non issue.
I ran 5W-40 (only weight I think) T6 in another vehicle I owned and it tested pretty well, not quiote as good as M1 0W-40 but for the price it's great.
I have not but I know it's great stuff! Something makes me wanna say that VTT stands by that stuff hardcore! I could be wrong but I feel like I read that beforeHas anyone used Brad penn in their BMW's? It's pretty widely used for race cars and people's daily drivers around me since it's made in Pennsylvania
I use to use Schaeffer oil in my Supra a while ago, great oil. But isn't the Supreme 9000 a Diesel engine oil?I run none of the oils listed. I run Schaeffers Supreme 9000 in all my boosted/performance engines.
A lot of the good oils are diesel oils. What makes a diesel oil desirable is the high zinc and phosphorus content. What's known as your zddp package. This is your anti wear and friction additives. Excellent for an ICE but in 2006 the EPA said horrible for cat converters! So they limited gasoline engine oils to I believe 900ppm.I use to use Schaeffer oil in my Supra a while ago, great oil. I'm really considering using Brad penn, it doesn't have any emission additives, it's made in my home town, and it's amazing + cheap. What else could anyone want?I have not but I know it's great stuff! Something makes me wanna say that VTT stands by that stuff hardcore! I could be wrong but I feel like I read that before
I know @Tony@VargasTurboTech is a huge voice for correct oils for the job.. I belive he even linked the FP report on his site for awhile. May still even be up! Hope it is, very important little read/results!
Not a fan of anything listed. There is no real reason to run boutique oils its basically snake oil. People really like to make oil way more complicated than it is. 99.99% of the people on this forum don't do anything more with their car than some street racing. That's a far cry from race conditions where things like zddp additive can help buffer potential oil starvation issues (due to high g forces). Zddp additives aren't just bad for cats. Zinc also increases engine wear until the oil gets hot enough for the zinc to actually start working. Hence why it's still used in race oils where engine wear and cold starts is a non issue but catastrophic engine failure due to starvation is a real concern.
And for the drag strip guys, I know some old school hot rodders that would run straight 0 weight oil to get the most out of their engines.
N54 does have some real cooling issues stock, but unless your seeing 20+ straight minutes of oil temps over normal operating range of 250f then you have no reason to be using a thicker oil than specd. Yes, a higher quality oil (you dont necessarily need to run a thicker oil) will hold up better under that kind of high heat and shear but how many people here are endurance racing?
I run regular old tried and true castrol edge at hpde events and even after multiple track days and a few thousand road miles my oil is fine... That's with oil temps of 270f. I was at an event yesterday in 86f weather and oil pressure didnt drop off at all. A higher quality oil like redline might hold up longer across more hpde events, but edge is so damn cheap I can just change it after every event and get the same piece of mind if not more. I can change edge 4x for the cost of every 1x redline change... i knoe some the oils listed are cheaper than redline I was just using it as an example.
