I'm not able to keep bluetooth audio (when routed through android unit) from pausing after leaving the bluetooth app. Any ideas? I bought my unit through aliexpress (NaviFly 32g android 7.1). Playing audio from android pixel2 phone. Audio plays fine when using usb connection.
  • CIC cars have one oem plug leftover from the original BMW idrive screen.
  • My NaviFly branded unit has several leftover
- looks like CIC cars have one oem plug left over
- My NaviFly unit has a few leftover plugs in the adapter harness. I assume this is ok. One is labeled x1 key
- How can I connect the android unit to the OEM microphone for voice input?

Version I bought (CIC)

So last time I perused the idea of installing one of these AVIN units, there were just the two main options, the iDrive and non-iDrive units. There were also options on models, I recall there being a WiFi only model, and a wireless carrier enabled model. Now there's another option for non-iDrive, the 10.25" "on-the-dash" model that's supposed to look like the more current vehicle setups.

I really want to pull the trigger on this, with many of the bells-and-whistles options, so that it seems more like an original integrated piece of equipment.

Have any of you seen these around or even purchased one? I want to know how it works with the original audio controls still being present. I also have other questions.

That looks identical to the AVIN unit I linked to just before your post. Biggest difference I see is that the similarly spec'd model (1GB RAM, Android 4.4) is "out of stock" on AVIN's sight, forcing you to pay $50 for the better spec'd 2GB RAM, Android 7.1 model.

That's what I came here to find out. Whenever the VA pays me (I'm STILL part of that nice large crowd of their most recent victims that's been in the news), that's one of my first purchases I'm going to make. If I beat you to it, I'll post up an install and review, and see what questions I can answer for you.

My opinion on these is very meh. Bluetooth only works in their built in music application. It will not detect a bluetooth device such as an OBD adapter and pair with it as they hijack the bluetooth chip and use it for this custom interface.

Loving my unit. People that are having issues either expect perfection(which imo the oem idrive is far from) or just don't know how to properly configure it

I just installed my unit and im pleased with it but I do have a few issues that I would like to fix with your help..

1. My unit works great and sound isn't too bad, other than Bluetooth turns off if I navigate away.
2. My unit works but if I try to switch to iDrive, it says "no signal". I have yet to get iDrive to work...
3. What is the best route to get MHD on the screen?
4. What are people using for carplay?

Thanks!

Anyone find a solution to the download speeds? downloading at 100k a second is not good. i have to believe its a setting since i have only seen a handfull of people complain about down load speeds but no one has posted a fix. i have tried the usual clear data and cache from google play store app as well as tried the settings in the network area of settings but i still only get 100k download speeds. This seems to be on any download from web other app store or play store. Aside from the download speeds the unit is great. I have the newest version from 4x4shop 8.1 andriod unit. Also the sound is spot on. I have logic 7 as well and this is just as good with no issues with hiss or anything like that. I still have no signal when trying to switch to ccc i did recheck the fiber connection and it is plug in. not too concerned with that as at this point i am afraid to pull out the radio again to check it since the harness will move and it may take me two hours again to find the one and only sweet spot you can get this harness in to get ccc unit back in.

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum but read through this thread and hope somebody could help me out. So far I've not been having the best experience with Avin and my unit. I have to say though that the screen clarity, and the ability to run almost whatever app i want (jb4 included) can outweigh a lot of problems the unit has that I can look past.

However one problem I cannot really get past right now is audio. When I first installed a 7.1 android 8.8" to replace my CIC idrive (with only HiFi audio running bavsound speakers and bimmertech dsp amp). I followed all their install instructions and found that I was getting a pretty loud static coming through on only the factory bluetooth input and aux input. So essentially if I stream music, or try to listen to anything on the android side it has tons of static coming through. I can still listen to the music or video or whatever I'm playing, but will listen to static in the background that will get louder if I turn the volume up. I can deal with audio quality loss but this is something different. It even makes the static noise with the aux cable unplugged from the input.

The part where it gets weird is that factory radio, and music playing through the car's hard drive comes through crystal clear. I've worked with Avin on it and they said it may be a defective unit so I ordered an 8.1 Oreo unit- the latest and greatest the have. I run through the install again, and the exact same problem is persisting. Hearing so many people enjoying their units with little or no audio issues makes me think I keep getting units that are bad but I'm getting tired of doing this install. If I didn't have this static I'd be enjoying the unit so much and would recommend it to everyone.

One thing to note though is I saw in Toddyus' post his unit had a ground cable, which mine definitely did not come with. Is it possible mine just needs a ground connection? Has anyone else run into this issue? I've already been to 2 audio shops locally and both have pointed to the android unit as the issue. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I've also tested a ground loop isolator and it did nothing to improve the issue.

The previous post raises a question for me:

Will the factory audio continue to work with the Avin unit installed?

I‘m really happy with the sound quality of high bit depth MP3 files playing through the 6FL USB port in the armrest (factory Logic7 + BavAudio upgrade speakers + underseat Earthquake bass/subs + Amp). I’m mainly interested in using the Avin for MHD and Navigation (Waze) so sound quality from the Avin is not all that important to me.

Thanks for any feedback.

Do you get the static if you use a different source for the aux or is it only happening when using the Avin? If both, the issue is definitely in your stock sound system/car/headunit/cable. If not, then it's absolutely something with interference with the Avin. Have you tried a new aux cable or re-routing it? It could be getting EMI interference since the aux is analog.

My understanding of these (the ones with IDrive) is that they have no real integration into the stereo, other than the screen. They are merely an integrated tablet, that uses the aux input. You can switch back to the factory Idrive screen, and then use FM/AM/XM and CD as normal. It's only when you want the tablet features would you have to be on the aux input.

The only thing that holds me back on these is that I use XM, but I would like to have Google Maps audio override it, which isn't possible. It sounds like you would be ok if you play MP3 files thru the AVIN, as then Waze would still come thru.

I’m not interested in playing MP3 files through the Avin because of the so-so sound quality people are reporting. I am interested in playing MP3 files through the 6FL USB port in the armrest that are digitally processed directly by the Logic7 head unit - superior sound quality. My question is will I retain or lose this function with an Avin unit installed?

My car only has the analog aux Port not USB. If there a separate choice between aux and USB on the head unit? If so, you will need the factory head unit to be on USB and mp3s will play. You will not hear Waze from the avin though as it uses the aux port. If the USB and 3.5 aux are the same source selection, you might get lucky.

Thanks for the clarification. The USB and Aux ports are separate and selected differently with 6FL option in my Logic7 system. So if I were listening to my MP3s through the headunit I would not have any sound through the Avin. I should then be able to select Avin sound by selecting Aux audio in the Logic7, right?
Can anyone else with Avin / Logic7 + 6FL USB option confirm this?

So currently I get the static with aux, usb, or bluetooth input selected (just tested the usb input yesterday). I get the static with 3 different shielded aux cords, and even with aux unplugged entirely. This never happened before installing the Avin, but I almost hope it's an issue with my car so that it's fixable. I'm a bit rusty, but isn't the usb, aux, and bluetooth inputs all handled on the MULF2 HI on the car? If not, does anyone know what unit is responsible for handling these inputs? I won't rule out the possibility that mine just happened to go bad with the Avin install and it's a coincidence and I can replace that and solve the issue.

The one test I haven't done yet is uninstall completely and go back to my stock screen and see if the symptoms persist. I won't have time for a couple weeks to knock that out but I'll give that a try and report back with my findings.

Just fitted the latest Avin Android 8.1, and initial reactions are i'm very happy!

The unit does not require any trimming at the back and fits very neatly, however the length of cable between the original quadconnector and new quadconnector is still a tad too short to easily fit to the gap on the RHS behind the unit. [only took me 2 days to find the one and only perfect spot, day 1 was wasted until i took out the glove box!! to get better access]

Yes there are still issues, the sound quality is definitely flat compared to the stock CD player, but acceptable, but at least now i have flexibility, and can still play the old CD player and use the now superior Navigation on the monitor.

Only other gripe is the music stops once in reverse, and have to press the Park 'P' assist button to disengage the camera after finishing reverse to resume music.

But I have a question to all who have fitted the same or similar unit - I still haven't go around to connecting the AUX cable to the connector in the armrest, and yet after initially testing the installation the sound from USB stick and Bluetooth are all functioning, so what exactly is the benefit of this cable connection? If there is a solid reason then i'll go to the trouble of removing the old [useless] phone cradle from the armrest to make the cable connection neater.

Which one do you have? 8.8" or 10.25"? Glad yours seems to be working well. Did you get any extra accessories like wireless backup camera?
