Hello…I’m on my second set of rears on this combo…no rubbing although I’m running stock MSport ride heights…ie it’s not lowered..

35mm offset front and 33 rear..put a 5mm spacer on the fronts..

Steering is a tad heavier so next time I’ll go for a 235/35 front and keep the 275/30 rears..

IMHO the SC7s are much better than say the MP4S in terms of steering feel and grip..

They certainly suit the E89 chassis..

You’d get a better ride on 18” but SC7s are not available in the correct sizes.

Of course it’s the total chassis combination..I’m running the Ohlins R+T and now have quite good steering geometry so it’s coming together nicely..

There was a burst of activity a couple of years ago headed by Silverstar and Nitrix in using genuine carbon fibre to over lay on the E89 interior trim areas.

I bought from Silverstar a set of interior trims and some panels that had been carbon fibre’ d and then epoxy resin coated..

For various reasons they languished in my goodies cupboard…

This winter I decided to fit them, then as I pondered I realised that leaving the door handle trim in its original yukkie dark brown trim would be an affront to tactile and visual tastes..

Therefore I contacted Silverstar with a fire to getting these done..pleased to say he’s still in the market for doing them.

These arrived yesterday., just unwrapped and very beautiful.

So the good bits are..

Despite quite thick layers of epoxy the trim and controls reassemble without any issues

The photos don’t do justice to the lustre and depth

A lovely tactile feel to the finish

I had the gear gaiter re-finished by Royal Steering Wheels to suit them plus the Royal Steering wheel re-furb

Things to consider are

Unless you have a spare trim set there is a 2 to 3 week turnaround / down time

Costs..Silverstar quotes £500 for a complete set of your trim being processed..plus p+p..which given the time and quality I honk is very reasonable for the result…especially if you are a crack handed muppet

I think the cleaning of the surfaces will need to be done very carefully to avoid scratches in the epoxy

Well pleased and a big thanks to Silverstar

Unfortunately I’m limited to the house following a major eye op but hopefully in 4 to 6 weeks time I’ll be able to fit them.

I decided to fit front and rear dash cams..front choices are many..rear cans more problematic on the E89.

So I bought a Garmin Garmin 57 for the front camera a Garmin Mini 2 for the rear.

Front camera will mount behind the pax side of the mirror and the back will peek through the pax rear roll hoop through the mesh. I’ll need to fabricate a small pedestal to mount the rear camera..plus the image will be inverted ..but that can be corrected post processing.

The 57 camera has a GPS so that provides speed, time and location data that the Mini 2 piggy backs off.

Power feed is always an issue…I’m taking out the front smokers ash tray so I’ve retrieved the power socket from it and will use a usb power plug to power both cameras..unfortunately the sockets lose power when the car is shutdown..I’ll just live with that compromise.

The cameras are really dinky..

3D printed pedestal mounts the rear cam nicely ..

Just put the tyres on the car, went from the winter tyres (235/35R19 front, 245/35R19back ) to the new conti sc7 summer tyres. I did go with 245/35R19 in front and you are right a little bit heavier steering feel, but damn the grip is huge. Ps finally I could test what my added rear big brake kit can do.🤓

Hi Peter,
I just put in the Mosselman thermostaat myself today, oil temperature is down by 10 to 15 degrees. How is your experience with it?

Gr Armando,

So after a few days of steadily working through the 2nd order issues caused by the new woofers, the MMI box, the carbon fibre trim and the front and rear car cams we are there ..

Had an issue where the Garmin USB plug was DOA…had to pop the centre console to use a who-flung-dung no brand usb 12v plug to get power to the cameras..

Bit of vacuuming after all the crap fell out of the cabin filter..fresh interior mats..not quite as good as I’d hoped for but heh ho..the same company did a great job on the Volvo but these just weren’t as good..

One of the c/f trims for the light switch wasn’t fully seated so a night on the bench with some wood clamps and some 2 pack epoxy glue fixed that..

MMI box seems stable ..

The mic sitting inside the trim cover over the steering shaft seems a bit deaf..I have to shout…

I’ll need to code out the BMW standard audio assist button so it calls Siri plus hook up the car cams to each other…the rear Garmin Mini 2 gets speed and location data from the front Garmin car cam..

A few videos on YouTube to try and give more of a perspective on the work..

After doing the data logging and looking at the likely impact of IAT and size of intercooler I asked Wagner if I had could have one of their really bad boys..the Evo 3 competition version..

There’s only less than £200 difference between the Evo 2 and Evo3…so I asked Wagner UK if I could part-ex the two for the difference and they said yes!

Pics show Evo 2, Evo 3 and stock 35i FMIC

So the big boy arrived today and as they say size does matter..

Given in the UK we don’t run ethanol mixes with their cooling attributes keeping the inlet air cool should reap bigger benefits..

Also the flow rate is much much better..

Downsides…

A bigger, heavier lump right on the nose..

Theoretically some delay due to a larger chamber to get charged…not sure on this one..

Onwards..Warp Factor 6 Mr Zulu!

Are you planning on putting any kind of supplemental supports to help keep in in place, or just use the standard bolt on each side? When I put in my evo 1, the extra weight concerned me, but I just stuck with the two bolts and everything seems to be holding so far (not that i've actually gone back in and looked...)

Hi, it comes with an extra bracket and instructions to mount it..I can take a screen shot of the instructions if you are interested..

So exhaust fitted and a quick test…in part limited by a front left hand buckled wheel..but that’s another story…
tumbleweed.gif

Nice sound..at low revs quite baritone without being a drone..higher up like a nice brass trombone…wind noise in the cabin overpowers the exhaust note so will have to wait till others hear it…

Didn’t realise that the OE exhaust system is all in one piece from the primary cats back….a bit if cutting n shutting required..

Interesting to why BMW put such a restriction in the right hand pipe that’s only opened at times in sports mode..

Tried to take some videos for the sound…try accelerating hard with a camera in hand …

Like the nice stainless bazooka tips..if size mattered…

You buckled a wheel??? Do tell.
First proper run out since a major eye op a few months ago..coming home on mountsin roads had to run into a water filled pothole as car coming opposite way…was a very very bad bang…vibration through the chassis..stopped at next pull in poing..no obvious damage..went onto smooth fast road..vibration increased with road speed…got home…took wheel off and inside rim slightly flattened..going to the rim doctor on Friday to be trued out…Apex Arc 8 flow formed..I guess if it was a BMW326 it would have cracked in several places..
