Would you recommend replacing all four o2 with ntk or only the pre turbo o2's?

Depends on if you're getting any o2 codes. The rears are fine unless they're old and need to be replaced. The Front sensors are ones that getting killed in the pre turbo environment.

So I assume mixing O2 brands isn't an issue?

I sure hope that is the case. Speedtech is pretty clear in their wording that there are some changes required to the O2 correction tables. Maybe someone with experience can chime in on this.

As stated before Stock 02 sensors aren't designed to be ran pre turbo. The pressure eventually kills them and throws the reading off slightly hence why people run ADV sensors in the first place. The problem now is that no body makes a plug and play adv sensor kit right now so people just run NTK sensors and thermo isolators. You can adjust the tables to give it a better reading but most people don't bother.

The problem now is that no body makes a plug and play adv sensor kit right now so people just run NTK sensors and thermo isolators. You can adjust the tables to give it a better reading but most people don't bother.

What is up with no ADVs? Did Motiv stop offering them for some reason?

Plus it’s going to be obsolete anyway they’re working on single post 02 sensor setup like the n55

When that is out to market, think there will be a way to convert these kits to run that? Plug pre O2 holes and custom fab dp?

Yup, Plug o2 sensor holes and weld in an o2 bung in you DP. Can probably do it without removing the DP depending if it is wrapped or not and how anal you are about appearances.

You will need to screw in o2 bung plugs in the manifold, and have 2 bungs added to your downpipe. Even though I will be enabling people to get the sensors out of the manifold, you will still need 2x lambdas in the downpipe, and 1 "rear" o2 sensor.

Additionally, I highly recommend anyone who plans to make decent power with an ST kit run a standalone wideband sensor / gauge as well to ensure proper calibration of your DME lambdas (using the exh. pressure factor table). So that would be 4 bungs in the downpipe :)

Good stuff! Too bad MHD doesn’t have a module to log additional analog inputs like a wideband. Similar to a HP Tuners pro setup

I was just thinking the same thing but I sold mine from my old maxima a while ago. I wonder if there is a better product out now for our specific application...ideally I would want to be able to, at the minimum, log the afr against rpm so the log would be able to be compared to what the two 02 sensors in the downpipe are feeding the DME. You need a reference point as comparing real time is not an option(in my opinion). Then you could adjust the tune to what the actual A/F ratio is from the wideband.

Hah, same here -- sold the Innovate off my Maxima a while ago, but still gotta unload the Vortech kit and 00VI. I thought your handle looked familiar, but didn't realize I recognized it from the maxima.org days.

A few maxima guys over the years have come over actually. If you were willing to dump money to try and make a maxima fast the N54 is like a god send ;) Well at least until 500whp even then...I mean cattman headers were what $900 + install? That is like FBO on an n54 400whp not 275whp NA and you still need an apexi and wideband another $900. Talk about horrific band for your buck.

I personally have the Innovate ECB-1, it logs AFR, boost, E% and fuel temp. The E% was useful to when developing the FF ECA, but not so much anymore now that E% is in MHD.

If I find another input in the DME to repurpose, I can potentially leave is as a generic 0-5V in so you could log any additional sensor you want. There are some available, I just am having a hard time getting the pins active.

This is where I think something like the AIM data acquisition systems are a no brainer. (or Motec, or Traqmate, etc) Yeah yeah yeah.. they are expensive. But that is relative. Tally up $ spent on a built motor, turbo kit, intercooler, injectors, oil cooler... i'll stop there. Then tally up replacing a blown up motor, blown turbos, and the labor on top of it. All of a sudden that data acquisition isn't so pricey. The AIM MXL2 or (EVO5 with add on dash) is pretty phenomenal at what it can do...

-Programmable warning lights: (The no brainer part)
I can't tell you how many times I've prevented blowing something up because I had a warning light come up telling me something was wrong. INSTANTLY pays for itself when that happens. On the flip side seen lots of people blow stuff up because they didn't have warning lights.

-2 CAN inputs:
Tap into RPM, Coolant temp, brake pressures, steering angle, and a bunch other stuff the BMW PT CAN transmits. Simply done with 2 wires, CAN high and CAN low. More on this below.

-8 analog channel inputs:
Expandable to as many as you want. A/F sensors, temp sensors, pressure sensors, potentiometers, list goes on.

-GPS location:
Tracking for track map display, lap times, predictive timing, etc

-Programmable shift lights:
Gives you green, yellow, red blinking lights so you can build up to the shift point

-3 axis accelerometer:

-Digital outputs:
Use a conditional situation to trigger a cooling fan, or whatever you want.

-Automatic logging:
No need to hit start or anything. It just logs. Programmable conditions as well with that. Ignition on, certain RPM, etc.

-Analysis software is awesome:
Data is exportable to excel if you want to combine with other data to toss into DataZap.

-Wifi connection:
No need to hook up a cord to download data.


All this brings me to MHD logging. MHD is clearly awesome as it is logging parameters that are not broadcasting over the normal BMW CAN. Things like WGDC, timing, etc. It would be awesome if MHD had a CAN stream output. Then more advanced data loggers could record the data. The MHD could log via bluetooth from the car, then a cord could be attached from the data logger to the MHD device (phone, tablet) for the CAN signal. Extraordinary logging and analysis capabilities at that point.

Obviously this is overkill for just logging A/F, just making a point about all the other stuff it can do and save your engine. In other words, running too lean on the pull down the strip, dyno, straight away, etc...? you could have a warning light setup to lift before you kill the motor.

o2 sensor life seems to be a common issue among most single turbo kits, I have a friend who goes through pre turbo o2 sensor every few months on his doc race kit and tried o2 sensor isolators with no luck. They kept on getting o2 sensor delayed response codes with the isolators on.
