It seems the e60 is the black sheep in the n54 line up, the engine and trans are the only things that seem to have no issues if swapped. I have here another example, I ordered the RB heat shield and bracket. It’s a nice piece, and sits well on the engine, except the charge pipe hitting it. I also bought the VTT charge pipe before, and couldn’t use the rear pipe being it was tight up against the turbo fold. This is a pic of the shield and a the hybrid pipe I put together using the stock rear and VTT a front.

A few more interruptions, but it’s finally in! I knew the 535xi mounts were different but looking at the pass side, I thought it was going to be good. I was wrong, it’s off by 2” and it’s the part number off by 2. I’m running new Rein mounts, but when I pulled the old ones off, I misplaced the bolts. I looked them up, $22 for a set of 4! M8x35, I found some spice grade 10.9 12 bolts for $.97ea, imagine that. The other issue, the friggen ac line! Man, I forgot all about this, the n52 ac hoses are different because of location of the ac. It’s a tight fit behind the valve cover, had to remove the mounts and drop the motor, with enough swearing and very little patience, it actually slipped in .

The n52 came with a plastic pulley, figured I use it being lighter and less rotational mass. I’ve read a few threads of these things splitting taking the belt with it. The only steel pulley I had was of the 535xi pump that was dynamic, well, there not compatible, so I’ll have to source one, I don’t trust it, now I know about them coming apart.

Which pulley, the power steering?

This oil filter housing looks different? does the 535 do something different, coolers on each side or cooler in the center? On the other both lines run to the right/passenger side.

The ps pulley I needed was off the n52, unfortunately it’s 6 rib, so it’s useless. I bought a 335 aluminum pulley, so should be worry free. The e60 runs its oil hoses on both sides, unlike the e90 were they both go to the pass side I believe. The 535/535xi share the same oil cooler, it’s intergraded in the fan shroud.
