Mmmmm. I think you'd actually want to filter the fuel before it goes into the sensor. Also for terminology's sake, AFAIK, the ECA is just the computer box thingy like the boostbox. The part that goes inline with the fuel hose, is a Flex Fuel sensor. The computer box does the analysis of the signal sent by the sensor itself, someone please correct me if this is wrong.

So what you'd do most likely, is cut that long hose and shorten it up by however long your fuel filter is. That is more or less my basic plan anyway. Some people are saying to put the flex fuel sensor on the return line or inside a Y to Y hose to alleviate flow restrictions, although for my purposes it probably won't matter.

Update: I received my MOTIV ECA with short line engine bay upgrade. The shorter hose will bend around the starter motor. It uses same couplers as discussed in this thread. So I believe all I need to do is insert the fuel filter between the shorter hose and the ethanol detector, using a female-female coupler: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001DSV408/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_YteZAb7M3P8CG.
EDIT: Correcting post based on Doubles’ comment below. The filter may fit better on the upstream side of the detector. I’ll know better when I get in there.

I noticed these fittings seem a bit loose. What’s the best way to keep them tight? Maybe some Locktight?

No I haven't. Honestly I doubt we'll ever know if it is an improvement in that way. I suspect that filter, as small as it is, was not expected to ever see much of any particulate by BMW. Mine was clean but others we have seen are dirty. I ended up changing it primarily because the larger filter is good hygiene.

When you drilled out your fuel rail. did you only do the the rail? of did you also do the ports to the injectors as well. I just finished up the rail but not the ports to the injectors.

There is no point doing the injector ports absolutely no benefit

When you combine the size of all six ports of the rail inlet port is smaller.

Marty prefers the cresant lock style connectors instead of the plastic tab ones

I've seen the plastic ones pop off many times and almost start a fire, wont use them even if given to me for free or get paid to put them on. Dangerous.

I see what mean. I have to redo my order anyway since I need to make a y line for my PI kit. The kit I have uses those same plastic fittings. I was going order fuel it line until I saw the price lol. I can make that line myself for half the price.
