I had TTE's on my N54 and they were great. I have asked TTE for an upgrade this time as well, but they dont do B48's. Turbomarkt is well known (not that famous as TTE) and they had a good price offer.

I have installed the Hybrid Turbo last week. It took me 2 hours to get the old one out, and another two hours to put the new turbo in. It was like changing spark plugs  Not really difficult.

You can hear the big compressor wheel sucking in air very loud on spool. Right now i am on custom tune revision 2... it will take some time to have real results. Meanwhile, enjoy the pics

Wow, 4 hours was it? We're you able to do everything from the top?

Excited to hear your impressions as the custom tuning progresses👍

Yes. Did everything from the top. It was quite easy as i am missing two cylinders :-/ and have plenty of room - lol

Hey Gents. It s been a while now, but i got the car dialed in to 100 oct pump gas. It took the tuner 10 revisions. Tuner said, thats it for the fuel as we have one (!) timing correction recorded. Check yourself:
1695475640896.png

Its running 21.5 PSI peak (at 4,5k rpm) and roughly 21 PSI at redline. Timing advance 10°. WMI is off!

Lets do some Math on this now. With my Stage 2 Setup i had ~ 20 PSI peak and 14.5° timing advance. This resulted in 300hp crank (dyno proven). Peak HP at 6.100 rpm (afair). Mass airflow at this point was 900 kg/h. In theory thats 900 / 3.6 = multiplied by 1.3 to get to your horsepower output. 900/3.6=250*1.3=325HP. As i already know the power output was exactly 300HP (on the dyno), we have to adapt the multiplicator to 1.2 to get closer to the real HP output (900/3.6=250*1.2=300HP).

The same math for my upgraded turbo setup is as follows. 926/3.6=257*1.2=308,6HP. Tell me if i am wrong, please.

I gained 8-9 peak HP with a stage 2 Turbo upgrade on pump gas... I told my tuner to bump up the boost and timing, but he refused to do so. He told me thats the save limit for this gas.

BTW, of course i gained quite a lot at low and mid rpm´s. For example at 4.5k rpm the difference is 22HP. But was it worth the upgrade? Tell me what you think.

PS: Anybody here to tell me how to calc. torque?

Doesn't seem to bad to get gains without meth😀 As far as worth it, how does it feel driving? More power plus no meth must be nice, plus you can always add meth back for more power.

The tuner won't do more boost and more timing, but if you're at 10 degrees now, I think more boost and less timing is an option to keep getting more power out.

It does feel better, but nothing wild. You can feel the added power at mid rpm's the most. No, tuner wont change anything. Not boost nor ignition. He keeps talking about MBT beeing spot on... We will do a Meth map next, lets see

To compare apples with apples....

Calculated data:

HP (MG Flasher OTS Stage 2 with WMI vs. Hybrid Turbo custom map 100 oct pump only, WMI switched ON but not tuned for)

HP difference with WMI switched on (100 oct pump gas custom map hybrid turbo calibration)

No, i dont think so. The EA888 engines from VW are their N54's. Especially the latest version of it is very capable. I ve heard of stuck piston rings, oil burning and pcv issues... on the first and second generation Thats the most common issues on them. They run bigger turbos and lower compression. Over all, very solid.

Really? B48 is a modular version of b58 - so basically a b58 minus two cylinders (but smaller turbo than b58 obviously)🤷‍♂️ And b58's are beasts...

VW been into 4 bangers ever since. What the inline 6 is for BMW, the 4 cyl EA Series is for VW. A lot of tuning potential and a big community as well. But not saying the B48 is bad. Probably the best 4 cyl BMW ever made so far.

Thx. Its custom map for hybrid turbo, or OTS map? If custom, what version of the map?

Custom Map for hybrid turbo. Revision 10
It's strange that the MAF is small at such pressure. I think that for good power (about 400hp) you need a boost of about 1.9bar. Why doesn't Jarek add boost? Engine stock with CR 11?
