Confirmed, at least in my case. The 335is paddles won't work with the M3 multi-function switches and more than likely vise versa. Swapped the factory switches back in and the paddles now work. I'm going to try and find a set of M3 paddles to confirm but GD are they expensive, even on Ebay.

Damn. Do the buttons pop off easily?

Separate question. Anyone know if the 235i diff fits in the e90 subframe? Read where Harold says they do, but wondered if anyone knew before I attempt it.

It takes 15 minutes. You have to disconnect the battery, pop the airbag out, three screws behind the wheel to release the trim piece, couple more connections, and two screws to release buttons from trim piece, done. Probably ten minutes if you're not drinking a beer.

M235i diff fits! For those looking for another diff option and not making crazy power, BMW offers a M Performance Differential with a Drexler 3 disc clutch LSD unit inside. I'm going to pop in a 2.81 ratio version (33-10-8-659-989). If I start pushing more power, I'll move to the beefier 210 case and half shafts, but for now it'll be plug and play.

*by fit, I mean swap diff cover with an e90/e82 and it'll bolt right up. Here are a couple photos.

Not a lot of info provided on how it works compared to the literature provided by after market manufacturers.

Any idea how to describe the tech as it relates to the tech in wavetrac or mfactory?

Hard to describe it, but its what I grew up on and prefer. With a 30% lockup in forward motion, it's not too aggressive. It has ramps set for a 9% decel to act like a helical (open), but does provide some straight line stability on throttle lift. There are videos out there to explain 1 way, 1.5 way and 2 way diffs. IIRC, a helical diff is a 1 way and preferred for Autocross (tight turning on throttle lift).

My desires for a clutch style LSD is for dealing with wheel lift, which I tend to do a lot. Here is the front.. :) Yeah, completely unrelated but a fun image of how stiff the chassis is on these cars.

F30 M performance diffs fit with the cover swap yes. Finding them isn’t easy though!!!

Apparently F80 diffs also fit but they aren’t favourable because they have the active LSD controlled electronically. I reckon you could just set it and forget it but maybe not.

I cant see them on eBay no matter how hard i try :) What search terms are you using ?
I should clarify - > New from dealer stock. Prices range from $2000 to $2250 vs something like $3000 msrp. Ratios seem to have an effect on price. I'm working through BMW North Houston.who got one in overnight. Picking it up as I type.

I don't think anyone takes them out and resells them... Hence no ebay Listings and even if it come from a parts car, not sure how to distinguish other than part number. Sticker on top that is.

I talked to the guy that helped me out. He said he would check on freight for export. I wonder what the cost is to purchase US side and import to Australia? Any interest here?

Installed the diff today. It was a bit more difficult getting it back in with the new poly bushings. Breaking in over the next few days. Also added Vibrant Resonators to the midpipe so I could try the berk race pipe again. Inside the car before resonators it was louder part throttle than full throttle. Talk about annoying. Hoping that's resolved now for the long road trip to Pittsburg (BMW CCA Oktoberfest in July).

Thanks man! Freight and customs duty will likely push this firmly into $4kAUD territory for me so not keen on that.

Why is everything so much more expensive there?

I remember my short time in Perth and how jacked up everything was cost wise. That may have been more supply/demand at the time, but regardless it seems anything auto related is nearly twice as much down there.

After a few weeks of driving around with the conversion I am extremely pleased with the outcome. Not cheap, not easy, but satisfying. One last issue and that is getting cruise control to work again. I have $544 cruise with braking. Deleted that in the CAS (factory VO) and added $540 and default coded CAS, KOMBI(corrected parameters for M3), and JBBF for good measure. Deleted it in my NFRM (M3 VO) and added $540 and default coded the MDSC. The CDAD error was there before this but wasn't a issue and didn't pop a warning. A3AF is new and is popping a cruise control malfunction on the dash. Did I miss something @Bimaxtremeretro or anyone else that might have a idea?

EDIT Got it sorted out once I went back 25-30 pages and followed a couple suggestions. All error free just need to check CC operation.

Which suggestions did you follow? Spoofing the M3 VO?

Still don't have the cruise control working. I've only used it a half dozen times in over five yrs so it's not much of a priority. After trying $540 and default coding, then nothing in both VO's, default coding then adding back in $540 and default coding and still getting errors I just went back to the stock $544 in the VO, reset and cleared everything with ISTA to get that nice green module tree. I'm sure the magic combination is in there somewhere, I just haven't found it yet
