On coding for example off memory, and very losely
The m3 cluster has an entry called "motorsport" wert 01 or 02
01 is something like BMW M gmbh and 02 is BMW gmbh

Selecting 01 with 6hp, displays large screen gears, oil level gauge etc, as soon as you hit D, transmission fault. Change to 02, no issues whatsoever. Dct will be 02 for sure.

Probably a dozen or so minor and very solvable such issues.

Well, I have the wiring harness too. I found an SZL that I can grab for $150 if needed. So I can literally have all the hardware you used today if needed.

We had to do that same KOMBI coding to our standard hardware as well to get things to work. Without that coding the DCT/KOMBI caused weird issues.

I have ISTA-D working but ISTA-P still won't connect.

All my other software is current so I should be ok once I can get going again.

Hey mate,
Don't stress too much about ista p, it's really no good for this stuff at all as it would be totally confused to the point you wouldn't trust it.

As an example and something you probably won't see anywhere, as most people know the optic most and icom must be used to flash the cic 63 62 and a0. Being an optic ring if something fails or turns off the ring breaks and it's all over. Ista p in its wisdom if it's not happy with something random like a vo or I level will continue flashing and sometimes in random orders. Long story short, the combox or tv tuner goes to sleep, the most dies while your upgrading the cic and the whole show fails. Best advice, if you ever flash cic and only ever over most, find the most ring and take the upper and lower far right and far left plus and connect to each other. This removes all other devices from the ring and effectively connects the cic to itself and your icom.

For the stuff be done here ista p would be a disaster. Winkfp is far better, just needs a little more care as it's unforgiving but at least your in total control.

Exactly right. And what's worse is that the m3 dsc works error free with and without szl on the 6hp with msd80. For mdm, since the mss65 isn't present, using either the 1m zb or merging the bins into msd81, mdm works exactly as it should.

@Bimaxtremeretro all of us are running custom flashes on our MSD81's. Do you know what is needed from the 1m ZB to make this all work? Because if you do @jyamona can hopefully make that available to us in his software we use on our DME's.

You have the dsc wiring harness ? You should hopefully only need the 2 or 3 wires added.

May As well snap it up, it's cheap. I've literally got a graveyard of szls trying to make different things. The damn thing has physical differences on the board so trying to make a rear wiper stalk work on an m3 szl is almost impossible.

I think we really got to go the other way around mate.

That is, he can address the power issue and you move your custom tune over the the 1m maps.

There are most certainly things in there that more than likely nobody knows so might be best to keep it all I would think, unless there is a good reason not to.

We would need to import the 1m changes. When I say we are running custom flashes, I mean we are about to be running full on (from scratch) custom BIN's that allow the incorporation of external non-BMW sensors to run full on flex-fuel so we can hot swap and mix regular pump gas and E85 on the fly.

From a DME standpoint @jyamona has literally built this from the ground up.

Yea, it was free. I grabbed it after buying a load of M3 parts from my guy and asked him how much he wanted for the wiring harness. He said to just take it.

I see. Very nice.
Talk to him and see what he says.
If it's s goer we should get cracking.

Just for clarification, are we talking about for MDM specifically here or the shift issue...or both?

I'm taking this one module at a time so we all know what happens with each.
These are the errors that need to be corrected when you swap your DSC:

We are working on solving the shift issue. MDM retrofit (and more) was done previously and the knowledge garnered there is being applied to our endeavor here.

Perfect, thanks. Just wanted to make sure I'm still on the same page.

I don't think you can put an M3 DSC in without an M3 SZL............it appears they are tied together. The SZL is coded along with the DSC. When you replace a module you have to flash the module and update the VIN. That was no problem. But then you have to do default coding.

You can't code the thing, you get BIN errors. I ran the full system diagnostics on ISTA+ and tried to do the DSC setup routines. It states in the notes that before you adjust the DSC after replacement you have to default code it, and that also default codes and marries the DSC to the SZL.

So it appears that a DSC and SZL are a pair that need to be together.

Just talked to Coulter Dean at ///MPorium and he agrees that the 335i SZL *should not* work with the M3 DSC based on his knowledge. It'll be interesting to see if @TireDeathRacing experiences the same hurdle when he tries to code his DSC.

Perhaps it’s an SZL parameter issue and that it might need to be coded first ?
