BQTuning here. Dimitri is working my flex fuel tune now, and did my 93 before. He's responsive and gets customer service, which helps since this is a back and forth activity, especially if one does upgrades. He has a bit of a brotherhood following in the Z4 redheaded stepchild world ... which means that's six of his clients :tonguewink: ... but second to his responsiveness, he is also working improvements on the platform (like his 740i intake conversion for the Z4 N54). His grasp is beyond table editing. Classy guy and smart - I recommend him.

Filippo
I totally agree with your comments about Dimitri at BQ Tuning. He has been working on improvements to my tune which has seen a best time of 11.03s @ 129mph over the quarter.

Shiv, or someone using Shiv's account was active only days ago. And for anyone who doesn't know, this is Shiv. Cached pages of his username brought me to this profile.
It's him, he's back. He's getting ready to unleash OFT on the unsuspecting F8x crowd. Hope his definitions are better than they were for N54.

I would not recommend BuraQ for anyone serious about getting a reliable tune. I have one of his custom tunes on my car from the previous owner and I wouldn't call it safe. Timing corrections up to 7 at some points, AFR's on E85 at 13.1-13.6 WOT, way too much down low torque for comfort. With everything else exactly the same other than E%, switching to MHD OTS E50 S2+ map My AFR's went down almost a full point, zero timing corrections, and smooth progressive torque.

And a unreliable 4g63? Im out...better luck with a n54 than a 4g...

4G63 is not unreliable at all. Extremely simple, reliable motor that can do 600+ whp on stock block. Anyone saying a 4G63 is unreliable either hasn't owned one or doesn't know how to take care of one. The Evo 8/9 4G63 is a much different beast than early DSM 4G63's.

My father had plenty of experience with the dsm 4gs in a gsx and nothing but crankwalk in that. Hated them.

My buddy who ive helped with a evo 8, has had nothing but issues. From it shooting out rockers one of which wedged inbetween the side of head and intake cam, bent 5 valves and jumped timing. Onto a full upper rebuild, and now its making odd noises down low. We've even talked to an ams 8sec evo owner and he told us there problematic cars but theyre fun when they do rarely run right. Ive got less in my car than his and his still dont run. I personally wouldnt own one given the experience with everyone else, ill stick with my n54, or my supercharged sbf's.

Unless you know everything about that car, the tune, the fuel, the parts, the conversations between the owner and BQ this is not a fair statement to make second hand.

Sounds to me like someone has a custom tune with good parts like inlets, outlets and a good intercooler and they got changed back before the car was sold.

I know all of this other than the in-depth conversations.

Yes, that's why the inlets, intercooler, and every part is still on the car. Quite the opposite actually: every part got left on the car and it never got turned back to stock.

None of that explains why the car runs perfectly fine with very solid logs on an OTS tune and then the logs go to shit on the BuraQ tune.

I'm just not interested in tuners that push it to the limits past safety. Based on what I've read of BuraQ, his tuning abilities over the (short)years he's been in the scene, and the terrible logs his tune produced on this car, I don't feel confident in his abilities to generate a reliable tune. Take that as you will.

I have not other than to ask him what he charges for a retune. Then I thought better of it and decided to explore my other options by researching other tuners, what they've publicly said on various forms, etc.

I usually ignore stuff like this, and will never respond to customer reviews but I thought on this round it will be worth my time to clarify things since in reality you were never a customer of mine.

If you had done your research you would have found I have been around before MHD and COBB. That means Dinan, RENNTech, GIAC were pretty much what we were stuck with who wanted flash only tuning. Oh yes I use to pioneer Dinan Stage 3 and RENNTech in the good old days.

I have owned 3 N54 cars, a 2007 E92 335i 6AT, 2011 E92 335is DCT, 2012 E89 Z4 35i 6MT. The N54 came out when ? It doesn't take much to figure the math out. Did you know that I used be partners with @WedgePerformance who is the tuner of the current OTS map your running ? I mean MHD doesn't just hand out tuner toolkeys to just anyone, and local renown shop like Pros and Eurowerks Automotive wouldnt just ask anyone out of the blue to tune cars.

Not feeling confidence in my abilities I am perfectly fine with. Its called shopping for your best needs, understood. But dont say you did your research on me when in fact you really dont know anything. That wasn't research you did it sounds more like you got mixed up in some koolaid that got you alienated.

If you had asked for the history on the car you purchased from my previous customer I would have shared with you the long email thread so you had more details on how and why the car was tuned the way your claiming, and what the previous customer adamantly wanted despite the very clear warnings in order to beat other cars in a race. This is how you do research.

Very easy on my end to pull logs up before you got the car, and Its VERY common for customers who are hungry for power, you tell them no, they tuner hop, then when shit hits the fan, revert back to last know working map, then sell the car. Not saying this is what happened in your case just saying it does happen and is an unknown between buyers and sellers.

More is a common thing customers want. Not what the tuner gives. Many ignore warnings but just dont care, but I make sure to keep everything in black and white very easy to pull up by VIN#

I tune for what is requested. If you want to know something come and ask me. Enjoy your N54 and be safe. Im off to enjoying Singapore again  and getting back to catching up with customers while still on vacation.

Without devolving from the topic too far, I was curious - saying 7* timing corrections - does that mean that the N54 is only octane limited and unable to reach MBT at all, even with E85? I know in the subaru community guys have cranked timing well past MBT without any knock when running E85. There's no point unless you are just trying to beat the rod bearings to death, but does this mean that if you could run an extra 7 degrees of timing that it would just keep making power? What is MBT range on these motors?
