TTE500 Hybrids with Custom tune

Hi Everyone,

I have a BMW 1M Coupe for almost a decade now. Love it and tuned the car for a bit. The mods are:

TTE500 hybrids with Custom map by AReeves to 440 bhp
Evolve dp, RB inlets
Forge intercooler
Forge dump valves
ER charge pipe
Ohlins coilovers
AP5000R BBK
Eisenman exhaust

The tune is rather conservative and I am looking for a more aggressive map, expecially low end. If I go with a MHD e-tune. Do I lose the custom map?

If you get a new tune, it will completely overwrite the existing tune. So any custom or OTS map you apply with MHD will remove any trace of the custom map you currently have. That's not really a downside though, you wouldn't want to keep any existing changes.

440 is conservative from those turbos, most will be getting 480 from those with pump fuel. Those turbos aren't the best for spool though so don't expect as much shove below 4000 as the stock turbos. Also consider what you are doing with the car, if being used for track driving it's better to keep things conservative.

If you post up the logs then we can take a look at the overall health of the tune.

Couple of us have these babies on our 35is E89s..

I had one fail after about 10k miles for unspecified reasons…having said that very happy with my tunes ..coincidentally by carabuser…

I haven’t tried any other hybrids so can’t comment on spool..carabuser has seen many hybrids..

But it’s more than adequate ..sitting between 525 and 545 crank as measured on a dyno I’ve used a lot..stock figure was 343 on the same dyno ..best mhd v10 was 400 BHP..

For driving on Scottish roads more than enough go and enough spool for me…

Thanks Carabuser. Will try to get some logs and post here.

Did you get a custom dyno tune or was it done remotely??

carabuser did the tunes remotely..we datalog them he sent updated tunes..then I went to my tame dyno guys just to run the car on the dyno and play with various airbox / filter / DCIs to see what gives..

Attached are dyno plots did at SRR. I manually map the previous plots done at the same place.

A - TTE500 hybrids, 98Oct, Custom map, dp, DCI, inlets, Forge intercooler/DV
B - Stock twins, 95 Oct, MHD OTS Stage2+, dp, DCI, inlets, Forge intercooler /DV
C - Stock twins, 95 Oct, MHD OTS Stage1+, inlets, Forge intercooler /DV

I am happy with power/torque delivery after 3,000 rpm but found torque loss from 2800 rpm and before. To be fair to AReeve I did ask for a conservative tune and it has been running flawless for over a year or 5000miles.

I am wondering if the low end torque loss is due to the nature of the TTE turbos or is it deliberate by the tune to prolong the clutch.

I have ordered a MHD adaptor and will get some logs for comments.

Thanks and great to e-meet with you all.

Sounds normal, the TTE turbos don't spool like the stock ones. But the data log will tell for certain if there is a boost leak.

Dynos aren't particularly useful for regular tuning. They are more for R&D. Once you have worked out a base map then street tuning works better.

When I bought the Tte500, I was hoping fast spool advertised = stock spool. Apparently the boost comes in 200rpm later.
