Significant Differences in Power Delivery Between Two F10 M5 Setups – Which Performs Better at High Speeds?
Hey everyone,
I’ve been testing two different power setups on my BMW F10 M5, and the differences in how the car drives and accelerates—especially at high speeds—are much more significant than I expected! I thought I’d share my observations and see if anyone else has had similar experiences or can weigh in with their own findings.
Setup 1 (blue curves)
1. Acceleration from 200-300 km/h:
In Setup 1, the car feels powerful up to around 250 km/h, but after that, it loses its edge. The torque starts to drop after 4000 rpm, so getting to 300 km/h feels like it takes forever—it's still fast, but the intensity fades at higher speeds.
In Setup 2, the power delivery is way more aggressive and consistent. The torque holds strong until 6000 rpm, and the higher peak power keeps the car pulling hard even beyond 250 km/h. Reaching 300 km/h in Setup 2 is much quicker and feels more exciting—there’s a real sense of urgency that Setup 1 just doesn’t have at those speeds.
2. General Driving Experience:
Setup 1 is fine up to around 200-250 km/h, but for real high-speed Autobahn runs, Setup 2 is far superior. The higher peak power and broader torque curve make it feel much faster and more responsive at high speeds.
Conclusion:
Setup 2 is clearly the more exciting and powerful option for high-speed and performance driving, but Setup 1 provides a more relaxed and comfortable experience for everyday use. Has anyone else tested these or similar setups? What’s your take on the performance differences, especially when it comes to higher-speed driving?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Setup 1 (blue curves)
- Torque: app. 1050 Nm (1079 peak) between 2000 and 4000 rpm, gradually dropping to 800 Nm at 6200 rpm.
- Peak power: 719 hp between 5900 and 6200 rpm.
- Torque:app app. 950 Nm from 2750 to 6000 rpm, with a slight drop to 850 Nm by 6500 rpm.
- Peak power: 784 hp at 6518 rpm.

2. General Driving Experience:
- Setup 1: Feels very strong in daily driving, especially in the lower to mid-range. Between 2000 and 4000 rpm, the car pulls like a beast, but after 4000 rpm, it starts to lose steam. It’s still great for relaxed, powerful driving, but when you push it, the drop-off is noticeable.
- Setup 2: Definitely more suited for sporty driving. While it has a slightly lower peak torque, it stays consistent over a broader range. Even past 6000 rpm, there’s still plenty of power to keep things exciting. This setup feels way more engaging when you really want to push the car on the track or Autobahn.
