Crazy. I've done literally hundreds of springs with a similar style compresser and never had one slip off. Almost exclusively use an impact to tighten them down. I think a little common sense goes a long way with these.

I worked on a commercial vegetable farm as a kid. I was watching one of the shop mechanics compressing a huge spring on an old grain truck. I remember the tool was to small but he used it anyway. As soon as he set it down the tool popped out and the spring smashed his whole face in. He didn't die, but I have no idea what happened to him.
Ever since I saw that I'm super paranoid about compressing springs.
