I have an interesting situation with FF on the E content. The Zeitronix which I can switch to on the same sensor(unplug /plugin) reads higher ,much closer to accurate E for E85 . Thats accross any multiple tanks of E85 to ensure there was no residual. The most MHD reads is E80. Most recently 78.8% at 2.48V. I am dumping in some regular fuel to see what a lower range comparison looks like. Say just a few % E. Thoughts? Faulty calibration or sensor?

That's hard to say without bench testing them myself. Where are you located?

I tried everything I know to try except swapping in a new throttle body.

1. Did all the adaption resets suggested in this thread and known to do.
2. Checked all fuses in DME box
3. Triple checked all pins/connections.
4. Went back to stock configuration - removed Motiv FF unit/wiring.
5. Flashed MHD v7.1 E40
6. Started car - same errors
7. Reset adaptations
8. Same errors
9. Clearing codes while the car is running causes it to bog (almost die) out briefly before the codes trigger and put it back into limp mode with bouncing idle.

Here are the errors. Same ones over and over no matter what I seem to do. Time to swap in a new throttle body? Hate throwing parts.

In MHD in the reset codes screen there is also a “Reset All Other Modules” (or something like that). I’ve done this before when facing a number of errors like you are.

@marseille I would go over your wiring on all sub connectors that have been touched very very carefully. I don't have a diagram handy, but would triple check the throttle body wires.

You said you disconnected the chargepipe and throttlebody. Make sure the TB plug connection is secure. It seems that is a common spot for being loose.

@jyamona A wiring diagram would be great. My 535 wiring is different than the instructions. In step 3: "On the driver side connector, carefully remove the small black sub-connector and locate pin 16. There should be a white wire with a purple stripe in that location"

I don't have a small black sub-connector on the driver side connector with a white wire - purple stripe in pin 16. Mine is a white sub-connector on the drivers side and pin 16 is empty.

@langsbr This all happened prior to removing the charge pipe, intake and TB. I removed those later trying to dig into making sure everything was properly connected.

I've also confirmed the TB should not be jamming as the codes suggest. I removed the gray cover and used a battery to ensure the electric motor drives the cogs and they don't bind/jam. This has to electrical and DME related.

I thought you were getting different codes now. It's always easier to check and double check things that you've changed or touched.

That code can also be related to:

Bad battery
Bad dme

I would start at checking all connections. Also, makes sure that none of the dme pins got pushed in. Had that happen to me before and it makes troubleshooting a nightmare.

Then check battery voltage. Didn't you just flash a new map or two?

@langsbr I'm with you. Hope it's not the DME. How to check? I installed a new battery EverStart Plat. H8 AGM last month. I re-coded it with ProTools. I did get a high discharge message yesterday. I put it on the 1.5a charge overnight. It was 12.5 when I checked this am. I bumped the charger to 7.5a and it was 13.4 when I checked an hour ago. A bad battery would be a godsend right now. I did reflash MHD OTS maps from v7.1 E40 to FF v8 and now back to v7.1 E40.

@marseille interesting that the sub connector colors were different. Ignoring the color though, the position of the connectors must be the same as the DME is the same.

@rev210 well there's a few options then. If you want to PM me and are handy with a multimeter I can help you troubleshoot remotely. You will also need a laptop running Windows to load a test firmware to the ECA. If not, you can contact motiv for an exchange and I'll have them send yours to me when it gets back. Third, you can blind trust the zeitronix and adjust the voltage conversion in tuner pro slightly to match.

@jyamona

These get thrown when the ignition is turned on without starting the car.
Code 2E09 - DME: Throttle
Code 2CFB - DME: Throttle-valve adaptation value.

Sorry for all of the photos.

ProTools. Engine off. Throttle values. Why is potentiometer 1 = .9v and 2 = 4.1v ?

Here are the connectors for my 2010 535 xi continental DME MSD81. From the pics, you can see the Passenger Side black sub connector has the white wire with a purple stripe at Pin 16. Tracing it, it goes to the small black connector to the right of the Driver connector on the DME. You can see from the pics its located at Pin 3 on that connector. Not sure how this lines up with the instructions? Where are the other 535 guys running this kit?

After initial install I received these codes:
2CFA - DME: Throttle-valve potentiometer 2
2CFB - DME: Throttle-valve adaptation value.
2D09- DME: THROTTLE.
2D1D - DME: Accelerator-pedal module, pedal position sensor 1, voltage supply.

I had initially wired the black wire with the green heat shrink into the driver side sub connector with an empty pin 16.

Redid the wiring based on the white wire - purple stripe being on the passenger side sub connector pin 16.

As of now these are the codes that will not go away and has the car in limp mode with the bouncing idle:
2CEC - DME: Throttle-valve actuator, jammed.
2CED - DME: Throttle-valve actuator, jamming continuously.
2D09 - DME: THROTTLE.

So installed a new throttle body. Did not solve. Same codes with new TB.

Ordered new BMW (Tyco) connectors and sub connectors for the DME from the dealership. Will be here this afternoon. The hunt continues...

I sent Motiv ([email protected]) an email asking for assistance. Hoping to hear back.

I would completely remove the ECA and return wiring to stock while continuing to troubleshoot this. Being that your replaced the TB and still had the same codes, I'd say the issue is likely in the DME wiring box.

Do the codes change when the connector right at the TB is unplugged?

I've run the car with the Contential ECA unplugged prior to installing Motiv FF dongle. I assume you mean disconnect the Motiv wiring? If so, I did this already and returned it to stock. Unfortunately, the same codes/behavior exist.

Yes, the codes changed when I unplugged the connector on the bottom of the throttle body. It kept running the same, but threw different codes.

The Motiv box is the ECA (ethanol content analyzer). The Conti piece is the ethanol sensor.

But yes I would return all wiring to stock and leave it that way until this is resolved.

Plug connector pin assignments for my 2010 535xi Touring are as follows:

X60002
Pin 16 = Type A . USA Activation, fuel tank leakage pump (Diagnostic module, fuel tank leakage)

X60005
Pin 10 = Type E. Signal Boost pressure sensor (Intake air temperature/boost pressure sensor)
Pin 25 = Not used

I assume my Pin 16 does not need to be replaced with Motiv FF black wire/green heat shrink? What does the black wire with green heat shrink need to replace? Is pin 10 correct? 25 should be fine since it's supposed to be empty per instructions.

I'm not giving up! I'm installing this damn Flex Fuel kit !!!

Like I said above, focus on getting your car running in "stock" wiring form without issues before attempting to install the ECA again.
