My MMP story.
I was running MMP PI kit (gen1) for METH with a BMS controller. I installed the kit last autumn but never got around to enable the PI in the JB4, I was still running 2 nozzles (CM5 & CM10). I was trying to sort other intermittent issues first and did not want to introduce another variable. Then winter came...
During the winter, I fixed a lot of issues on the car, replaced a couple of parts and in the spring, the issue I was struggling to fix was resolved. So it was time to enable the PI. When I originally did my install, I plumbed the PI and installed a valve to manually turn off the CM10 if needed so only the JB4 was in need to have parameters changed. Once the PI was enabled, I saw from both trims that the meth was flowing. Results were not consistent. The N54 platform can be quite picky at time to troubleshoot so I did not understand right away what was my problem. So I started to test/check every thing in the car to try to understand misfires at higher boost, hard to start when cold, sudden timings drop when under boost...etc.
Eventually, I came to suspect an issue with the PI. I tought it was a blown PI intake gasket (or more than 1), so I took it out of the car. I saw right away part of my problem, injector 3 was leaking, it had a big white stain around it. I tested the resistance of all injectors and found injector 1 & 6 where opened (instead of 12.5 ohms) thus not flowing. So that is 3 bad injectors out of 6 with less than a few months.
I started googling my issue and came to this thread....hum, I was not happy about what I was reading.
I reached out to MMP and he quickly proposed to ship me 6x new tested injectors (not Bosh). After reading about these knockoff injectors, I did not want to take any more chances and risk my motor. So I asked to get 6x new Bosh injectors with calibration data. He then proposed me to upgrade my gen1 (upon the gen1 return) to the new revised gen2 kit with the new Bosh injectors. By upgrade I means a new gen2 kit, not modifying in any way the gen1 kit. Price was more than fair so I took the offer.
I installed the kit and wow, this new gen2 kit works like a champ. fuel trims are in shape, no more strange sudden timing drops (due to uneven meth distribution because of injectors), boost no longer leaking and hard cold start is fixed. I am now a quite happy with the kit.
During all the email conversations, I was always polite, I did send the url of this thread so he knows I am aware of the issue. I think he saw an opportunity of making it right for me (and I thank him for that) and this is the reason for me subscribing on this forum to share my experience. So let's see if MMP now tries to make it right for the other customers in the same boat that I was.
