ahh 'those' nubs..First of all, I'm glad you and your car didn't have a melt down. Man that's frustrating, though.
It surprises me that the vendor recommends not modifying the coils - the measurements and information we provide on the interference and modifications, coupled with the piece of paper they provide saying not to modify the coils, makes for a surefire win in court. Incredibly ignorant on their behalf.
BTW I looked at your photos and the nubs were left intact. We found those interfered with the seating and should be removed.

They worked great when they worked, but... watching those wisps of smoke and playing the decisions game 'do I spray it or do I pull down the cowling first' wasn't fun at all.
Would removing those nubs but leaving the shielding on be the 'best' compromise? I'm looking for my original document from the coil kit, but it explicitly stated, in bold text 'do not modify' etc...etc.. so any warranty claim will likely be laughed off .. I just count myself lucky and will say everyone do your best research on anything you decide to change on your vehicle.
I though I did my research and followed best practices correctly however I ended up with an issue .
