Kingtecs with my reccomened ring gap and hone. Been kicking pretty good for last 7500 miles. How long will they last ? As long as your tune and injectors are in good shape i don't see any issues.

You will definitely need a machine shop that's capable of over-boring the cylinders if you want to go with forged pistons (even with 84mm pistons). Each manufacturer will have their recommended piston to wall clearance (and of course that also varies depending on your power goals) for whatever alloy material you go with.

What reason would you need to bore the cylinders on a new block? All you need is a bore gauge and a light hone to get your optimal cross hatch and to keep the optimal amount of oil in the cross hatch. There is absolutely no need to bore a brand new block. Shows how little people know about the subject and how many different pistons you guys have measured up because if you measured them you'd know no forged piston is even 84mm. You'd want to add clearance possibly so the motor is quiet on cold starts with forged piston. Can measure you're bore and get a line2line coating to have the best clearance cylinder to cylinder

I've reached out to several manufacturers (Mahle, JE, Wiseco), and they all said that they offer custom pistons based on the finished bore size. The issue is that they don't ship outside the US. In Europe, I found Wössner and AMP44, which also offer custom pistons. The smallest off-the-shelf piston I’ve found is 83.95-83.96mm.
However, I still need to re-measure the cylinder bores using higher-grade tools before ordering the pistons, just to be sure.

I've never heard of line2line coatings, but I looked them up and it sounds like a cool product - thanks for sharing!

Regarding the need to bore/hone - doesn't it depend on if your current bore diameter will meet the piston manufacturer's clearance spec for a given piston size? So if your bore results in too tight if clearance for the piston, then you need to open up the bore (or get a smaller piston). If your current bore size gives you the recommended gap clearance with your chosen pistons, then no need to bore/hone.

That line2line coatings will help you out if your gap clearance is too big because it will fill in the gap and wear to fit. But if you're already starting out with too small of a clearance gap, I don't see how that coating helps you as it's meant to fill in excess gaps and wear to ideal size; it can't increase a clearance that is already too tight.

Measure twice, cut once😉
