Looking good! Glad to see you decided to keep the 135i. I spent the last couple months looking for an F10 M5, but couldn't get myself to purchase one after hearing horror stories about the engine randomly grenading. I decided on a different modern sedan, keep an eye on my build thread in the next couple days

Are you still leaning towards the F10, or something else?

I spent the last couple months looking for an F10 M5, but couldn't get myself to purchase one after hearing horror stories about the engine randomly grenading.

While it does happen, I don't think it happens quite as much as the internet makes it seem like. For every 1 person that posts on the internet about their motor blowing up for no reason, there's at least 100 that have never been on a forum.

Just think Coronavirus - it's a YUGE emergency and 600ish people have died from it and we've shut down travel to and from China. Meanwhile, 10,000 people die every year from the flu and people still go to work after taking some tamiflu. It's all in how it's presented.

Buy the F10. Make 800+ whp. Be happy. When they drop to 20K, I may get one.

That's how I looked at it initially, until everyone I talked to locally had replaced their engine. Then I finally found one for $32k that I wanted to buy from a dealer across the nation, until I found the PO's contact info and he told me he that he threw a replacement piston in it and traded it in. Then I gave up hope.

Were they enthusiasts or random joes? There's too many high mileage examples on autotrader for these to be 60K mile bombs waiting to happen.

Boosted v8 sounds good, but it doesn't seem like BMW is the place to do it.

You need to factor in the cost of a built engine if you plan on extracting the power the F10 M5 can deliver. If you try to do it without a built engine you are asking for it. It sure is tempting.
