Hi Everyone,
This is research I wish I had done before changing the transmission filter in my 2009 535i. Hopefully this becomes a clean-cut guide of which ZF 6HPs are compatible with aluminum pan retrofits. Specifically these part numbers:
http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/E70/USA/X5_M-S63/browse/automatic_transmission/ga6hp26z_oil_pan
E70 X5 M/E71 X6 M Pan
24-11-7-588-752
E53 E70 E71 Filter
24-15-2-333-899
For context, I saw a facebook post from Josh LeBlanc of LeBlanc Motorwerks showing off some of his work on an X5 3.5d, including an aluminum finned trans pan retrofit from an X5-M:
He's likely a better source for firsthand experience, but ZF appears to use their plastic pan/filter across a wide range of chassis and ZF 6HPxx transmissions, and there should be some cross compatibility with this finned aluminum pan.
If anyone knows a good resource to look up which 6HP units are in which cars I would love to be pointed in that direction. I’ve been able to verify that these aluminum pans work on X5 diesels and the 335d, which I believe are the 6HP26 or 28.
per FCP Euro, their plastic pan “GA6HP19Z” service kit fits the following cars, and I’d like to update with specific transmissions:

I hope this sparks some discussion and I can develop it into a somewhat comprehensive resource for the community
