I was also starting to just DUMP money into my N54. It became a chore for me rather than a joy, and I was sort of living with dread waiting for the next thing to break requiring me to use my day off, weekend, post call day or otherwise fixing it. I like wrenching, but with two kids and a demanding career I dont need another one. I'd rather go to a car club meet, track day, etc with that time.
THIS specifically is why i sold my car. I wasn't the most delicate with it, but also didn't drive it much because of the fear of it breaking again. It was a 'say a prayer then floor it' type of car šŸ˜‚

Its a growing up problem I think. I'm really starting to value the "experience" that a high performance NA car gives while driving. Especially with all the EVs on the road now, speed is cheap. The N54 just really struggled to deliver comparatively. Even with the N53/Hydra combo, theres just such a huge sacrifice when going that far above the original powerplants output.

I'm really hoping to do the swap (whatever it is) myself as well. It's been a lot of fun so far reading and learning about new things.
