He is saying that a member on that forum once asked a question, "Does the shifter show where reverse is?" or something to that effect.not sure what you asked there
Have you tried the electronic steering wheel with the DCT? I'm about to do that, what were the problems exactly?Has anyone tried this on a 335is DCT? Assume everything should be the same though like the electronic steering wheel, there might be some weird qwerks.
Nope, however i plan on it. I would think it would be fairly simple but knowing BMW's complexity in their electrical system it wont.... Only thing i could see going wrong is the signal that the DCT outputs to the emulator may be different than the others. However if this works for both manual and auto, im almost positive it should work for the DCT since they're looking for the same signal since its just coming from the CAS and FRM module.Have you tried the electronic steering wheel with the DCT? Also doesnt seem to bad an investment when i reverse park and not be paranoid about shoving my exhaust straight into a curb or stopper....
Yeah its nice. I also bought a front camera to mount in the grill, will make parking next to a curb much easier.
I see, makes much more sense. Looks like a perfect system to integrate it. I look forward to seeing how it turns out for you.I don't use the same emulator as you, I use an aftermarket camera display. I had xcarlink before and it can do this, and so can Avin, which is what I have now.
You can use the oem backup menus, there is just no need or reason to. You get dynamic backup lines with the aftermarket stuff also.I see, makes much more sense. Looks like a perfect system to integrate it. I look forward to seeing how it turns out for you.
I would think of doing something like this but at the same i want to keep the OEM look.
Great Thread.
I am considering the backup camera for my 2011 335i E93. I read as far as I could but I still have few questions :
- I have factory CIC ( C1A version) with front and rear PDC. Is emulator a must for me ?
- Most of the ebay camera links expired( sold out), so if anyone recently purchased one, please recommend or share the link.
- someone mentioned I must use the extension MOST harness- I did not understand that clearly as to whats the difference between tapping on to existing connectors vs using an extension ? I know extension would make my job easy.
Thanks in advance.
The emulator is required no matter what version CIC you have, as the hardware is not present in any E9X/E8X as far as I know. The emulator just activates some dormant software already in the CIC. The hardware is the missing portion. I'm pretty sure its an E60 thing and above and it comes in a much bulkier package that doesn't fit these cars and is certainly very expensive.
I had one from autofocustech, the camera went bad after some time, I'm not sure why. I bought a new one from technetronix and it has been holding up, at least so far.
You don't need to use the extension, but you'd be silly not to in my opinion. You have to splice onto these wires, you don't want to do that to your factory wiring if possible. Just buy the extension and go to town on it, you can buy a new one if you mess up or revert it back to stock later.
I do know that some backup cameras will leave the reverse camera on for a short while even when driving forward(few seconds). Sometimes you have to back up twice to get to where you want to go so it just keeps it in reverse mode I suppose. As for your situation, I cannot help since I didn't end up going the OEM route.
