DIY tuning will be way easier and ''safer'' with a JB4 and a back end flash with MHD.
after reaching 2 tuners for my single turbo and not have the results I had with a mhd flash on my stock TT, I started to read and found the 2 thread there.
I got the lasted JB4 and a map from Terry. Even if he dont edit .bin maps, he helped me to edit them, timing wise with tunerpro.
Then log, and log and log, and compare result with other on a software called ''virtual dyno'', until I reach similar results as guys having similar setup.
From my reading, jb4 map1 to map5 are pretty solid and dummy proof. You'll be close to what a tuner can do, but not quite there as a real 100% flash set for your setup. But : cheap, DIY, and meth / PI friendly. (I use meth)
I knew that, but for me this was plenty already, got 601whp on map8, and 485whp on map 3. I keep the map 3 99% of the time, more usable.
I wish to have better low RPM response, but this is over my knowledge at the moment. I was expecting more low end power with a small 6262 gen2 divided ballbearing. Ill check that next spring.
I.e. my fuel line from the vertex valve split (wrong line used), LFP drops to 40psi, JB4 put the car on map1 automatically. I love those safety. Also you can still got MHD option, like single bank fuelin, launch, 2step, etc.
Imo it's a good start, then with experience you can jump into self tuning your .bin file and get a full tune flash to your taste or even go with a maxxecu.
I'd really like to learn how to write my own maps. I've done a smattering of research on here and did a basic tuning course through HP Academy. From my minimal research on this forum I've read the guys who do it have done it for a long long time, on multiple engines and platforms...
