I have thought about adding blankets to my turbos quite a few times and did not find a store that offered them. The price doesn't seem bad? Is this expensive? Seems worth it to reduce temps drastically...

(I do not have any experience with them, :p )

I firmly believe any increase to cooling efficiency will benefit limp mode avoidance on track.

That said, with twins is primarily the inefficiency of heat Vs pressure generating more charge air and oil/water temps. Best way to combat this before doing blankets would be a CSF rad, bigger oil coolers, huge FMIC, and the 800kW drop in fan.

With the number of oil leaks that stock turbos and valve covers have, I'm not sure I would want to run those since it's so hard to see them down low. Might be too hard to see if they were oil soaked

I would have assumed the modified stock turbo vendors would have made these if they had a way to market it as to why you would want this. More revenue. The stock turbos already run glowing red hot so not sure if you want to hold the heat in any more. There is certainly no need for these from a radiated heat/melting standpoint unlike a top mount single. Seems to me to be a waste of $$$.

CSF, oil cooler, and AMS FMIC already done. Haven't heard of the 800kw fan though. Got any more info/links on that?

Not many people track N54s, so the market is niche. I want to contain as much turbo heat as possible and keep it out of the rest of the bay where it can harm IAT.

I've read and agree that a single is the best way to go for a tracked N54, but I'll cross that bridge when the twins give up.

This is the fan that came with the PPKv2 and also comes on the 1M and 335is I think. Be mindful of the part numbers, I have had a suspicion there is a difference between the auto/manual fan shrouds at a minimum. My auto fan shroud doesn't fit that great with my manual CSF radiator.

Nice, thanks doublespaces. Cheers.

I've started to wonder how much of an affect radiant heat from turbos has on coolant temp considering the proximity to the water pump and thermostat. I picked up an ECS Aluminized Silicone Water Pump Hose when I did my water pump service, but I doubt it does much to fix the root issue.

I'd be pretty surprised if they directly effected coolant temps honestly. Any coolant in the pump should be getting sent away pretty quickly, kinda like how an aluminum charge pipe getting hot doesnt really effect IATs when you're mashing the gas. The ECS hose should at least help with longevity in regards to heat cycling though, so I dont think it's a waste considering the cost. I'll probably order the same one when I need my pump done.

A ventilated hood can go a long ways, depending on your climate.

I wonder if someone makes a magnetic cover for the vents, for people who for various reasons don't have a garage or can't park in covered parking where ever they may be. I prefer to go with integrated vents in the hood.
