Just did an oil change, and not 110% sure of how much is in the engine. I started using the 5 quart bottles, but dont remember if it had 2.5 or 3.5 quarts in the open bottle. So, assuming it was 3.5 quarts I added 1.75 quarts from the new bottle. Oil sensor is just spinning and it hasn't stopped spinning for 10 minutes idle, too sc ared to drive it. What do I do?

well we have 6.5qt capacity systems.. so you are ATLEAST 1.25qt low. I would add atleast a qt and a half. or do what Doublespaces said and just start over.

It "spins" because it's not up to the correct oil temp yet. You need to let it warm up to I think above 160 degrees. Then it will give you an oil level read out.

I came home from work and the oil light came on, then flashed to prompt me to add 1 quart. I drove home very slow just to be cautious, because I've never encountered this problem before. I'm just going to dump the oil and start over. Am I able to re-use the oil crusher washer on the pan?

You can, but I wouldn't if you can avoid it. It acts as a seal, and a thread saver, when the proper amount of torque is applied. They're less than a buck iirc.

If I were you, I would just add a quart of oil and take it back out to see what the gauge says.

So, I pulled out the oil and I was able to fill the empty 5 quart bottle almost to the top. I put in exactly 6.9 quarts of new oil and closed the gods. Done. A couple of hours later I started the car and it was making this noise at idle. I hope to God I didn't damage the engine : (

Unless you were driving the car hard, i.e. Hard accel, high rpm, high G turning, you'll be fine. If the oil pressure light never came on, then the pump was never starved of oil.

You can tap a dipstick of course. I think there are some scenarios where oil gets shot out the dipstick all over the engine bay. So that is one good thing.

You worry too much to own an N54 Mr. Six

Up a quart, down a quart, whatever as long as you resolved quickly. Unless you drove it off a bridge or pissed off an old lady who voodoo'd your ass, the car is fine.

Toughen up and relax.

Now compare this to brand new platforms, where warranty's get voided by golf tee mods and there is a technical method to filling up with gas properly.

While he's worrying about oil level an injector probably went bad and a headlight module fried.
