No, that did not happen. The intermediate board was required to work around a shortcoming of the piezo drivers.

To clarify…if you have a virgin set up do you need an ‘interface board’ as part of a PI set up?…asking for a friend

Not sure what a "virgin setup" would be in this scenario. But the reason for the intermediate board was stated in my previous comment.
