Hello everyone!

What causes Fuel Mode 6 to activate, and how to avoid it?

I think it's cat protection from memory. The public xdf has the tables needed. I think they are labelled fuel floor or something.

I have increased Fuel Floor (min cat protection mode) which is only partly a solution because this is a multi map tune and I run 93 octane and E50 map too, and I increased the floor to the lowest 93oct afr, but the E50 map is the one that goes into fuel mode 6, which results in it running 93oct afr at that area since that is the floor I set, 10.6 afr was the previous which was even worse.

Trying to figure out if fuel mode 6 can be turned off, or what is the reason for going into fuel mode 6 to begin with.

The name of the mode translates to component protection, but I assume it's mostly concerned with the cat.

What do the logs look like?

MAP scaling can cause problems here. It's usually a combination of that and low timing, either due to a low target, or severe corrections.
It can be turned off, but it's probably best you fix the cause rather than blow a customers engine.

This is on map 3 which is his E50 mix which we just started to dial in, and the interesting part is that prior to fuel mode 6, which might be triggered by this, timing goes negative -9, no timing corrections, it is what the dme targets.

Moved everything to a new tune where there is no multi-map option, only E50 as map 1 and that's it, with values copied over from the map switch tune's map 3, which was the E50 tune. And in this tune, we are not running into any sort of issues.

Well the fuel mode 6 is clearly triggered by sustained -9 degrees timing target, the EGTs will be getting really warm which is why it goes into failsafe mode before it melts anything.

-9* is around the minimum that the DME will allow without any torque intervention like DSC kicking in or a DCT shift.

Check the MHD+ settings. There must be a table somewhere that the MHD+ logic is interpolating with which is setting the timing incorrectly. Either the main timing table of the current map, or the flex fuel table.

Thank you, upon further investigation, I have found that for map 3 I have set the correct timing values, but made a mistake while scaling the y-axis of the timing table, which caused incorrect values to be used. After that, it is exactly what you said is what's happening with fuel mode 6.
