Been searching for the limits on the n55 m235i crankshaft, and my builder is saying the crank needs to be stronger for the power goals I have(800whp). The s55 crank is a different part number, but has anybody used it in the n55 for a high power build? The block has a block guard, forged rods and pistons, race bearings, yadda yadda. Wondering if my recipe is going to hold this power without changing the crank.

Thanks for the advice, and comments, trying to get a better picture of what these engines are capable of.

Have you seen this video? He's running 750whp on a stock engine m235i.

Very good video to watch, a lot of good information. I’m throwing nitrous at this engine, using a shuenk n55+ turbo on 93. It makes 480wheel, and then I’m building a port nitrous kit for a 2 stage setup. 100 first hit, second stage is another 100. The hit is going to be hard on the bottom end, even with a progressive controller. There are some who say the s55 crank fits, and those cranks hold tons of power. the bearings are the same from acl and king, N/S55.

Cams arrived. CAT camshafts 278/272. Seeing if anybody runs them, if not, I’ll find out this spring time. Also running Ferrera springs and retainers, with a modest port job. Got ARP 11mm studs. Getting excited to get everything back from machining!!

Looking around the shop I’ve noticed I’ve accumulated a bit of n55 parts. So I put some spare parts together and made a mock up engine! Bare block and pan, oil pickup, and cylinder head, and subframe!

All that to build to design a dipstick! I know, a lot of stuff for a dipstick, but I’m sick of not knowing the level of the oil. A few seasons on the track, and it’s really annoying to not be able to check oil on the fly.

I have an F22 m235i Xdrive. Location will probably be on the passenger side. I’ve looked all over for a point on the pan itself, but nothing looks like a good place. The is a place on the rear passenger side bedplate, that might be a better option, but I’ll get deeper as I get a mock up turbo and downpipe on.

I’ve seen two kits, BMW M4GTS. Requires coding out the electronic level sensor, but it’s replaced with a dipstick on the driver side, AND RWD only. The other has to be welded onto the pan, and it looks like a lot of work.

The subframe was sitting outside for over a year. I’ll cleaned it all up tomorrow, I’m tired.
