Welcome, @Kasmot. First post! This looks like a lot of work. I'm curious what made you choose the N54 for this project? What are you planning to do in the rear of the car to manage the power this drivetrain can put down? What are some of the obstacles you've run into? Any current roadblocks you're working through?

The M10 engine weighs in at about 180 lbs whereas the N54 is more than twice the weight, at 400+ lbs. I imagine more of the N54 weight will sit forward of the front wheels, versus the M10 as well. Do you have any thoughts about how that will effect the car's handling, and what you might do for that? Any brake upgrades planned to manage the increased power and weight? What are you plans for electronics?

Sorry lots of questions. I built a bored and stroked 2002 (2.3l) back in the day, and ran 16x8 Hartke wheels under stock sheet metal. It was a big project, which took me about 18 months to build (was also a restoration, respray, etc which I did all myself).

No problem man! But to answer your questions,

Yes, motor is way Havier and more powerful then the m10 which is why I added 2x1 .120 to support the chassis and be able to hold the power and as well as the balance on the rear end. Those 1x2 beams isn’t light at all.

I’m going brace the whole rear end also to be able to run true coil over. So it won’t be a light car by the time I’m done. Well still light but not as light as thin can .

Hardest part was to fit the engine/oil pan clearance. Can’t go too high cause I won’t be able to close the hood. Still dealing with that now as we speak. I wanted to run dry sump but that’s way to much money. I had to figure out the front suspension geometry first before I tackle the oil pan. E30 suspension is a little bit wider track than 2002 but it fits. I’m sure I can fabricate something to make it work and just use “dip stick”

Power wise, Ill be running MHD. I have jb4 on my 335i e85/93 mix 600hp but I hate the fact that I have to drive at least 30 miles to get e85 so on this build maybe just turbo upgrade + MHD tune + meth and water to air intercooler since i have no room for air to air intercooler.

On the electronics, I’m just going to transfer everything from my donor car. I’m focus on the hard part first then I’ll figure out the wiring.

so sick. I always wanted a 2002 w/ a motor swap. Unless I could get one of the very few factory turbos even then...a modern BMW engine in a 2002 should be like a go cart with a hemi.

Yea lol I just need to make sure that I’m bracing the chassis on the right sections
